UTE EBRE FLIX
Flix
reservoir (Ribera d'Ebre Tarragona). In July 2008, work began on the study and preparation for the removal of toxic wastes, which for over a century had been discharged into this reservoir by a chemical industry. Several thousand tonnes of these wastes had built up on the reservoir bed. The decontamination work had the added risk of having to avoid any displacements downriver, so as not to contaminate other areas of the Ebro.
The first stage of this decontamination work involved demarcating the contaminated area and isolating it by means of a wall of steel sheets sunk into the reservoir bed in order to keep the wastes separate. Toyser was involved in this stage, prior to the removal of the contaminated sludge. The customer needed data on the morphology of this now enclosed area of the reservoir bed in order to locate the contaminated sludge and identify those areas that needed to be dredged.
Toyser has deployed the appropriate bathymetry and topography equipment for the performance of these tasks. The bathymetry was conducted with a 50% overlap between continuous sweeps, with the aim being to ensure the utmost quality of the data.
